Jamal Benson

Jamal joined Fortif in July of 2026. Born and raised in Birmingham, Jamal is passionate about assisting clients and helping to build prosperous communities.
Prior to joining Fortif, Jamal earned his B.S. and M.S. in Criminal Justice from Troy University, his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law, and his Tax LL.M. from Georgetown University. During law school, Jamal was active in several on-campus organizations and served as an admissions ambassador at both Cumberland and Georgetown. He has also impacted communities through volunteer work throughout his academic journey. Jamal was the 2025 recipient of both the M. Alan Stephens Memorial Scholarship and the S. Pierce Award at Cumberland School of law.
Jamal has a passion for tax law and has experience in transactional drafting, corporate governance, estate planning, federal tax compliance, and corporate reorganizations. Jamal is eager to assist clients with innovative, tailored legal solutions.
When he is not assisting clients, Jamal enjoys traveling, volunteering, and mentoring youth. Jamal can often be found at Refresh Family Church, local sporting events, or enjoying Birmingham’s thriving food scene.
